Artist Statement

I build painterly images and sculptural forms, both abstract and representational, in luminous layers of complex color and texture. My extensive palette comes from natural sources and environmentally responsible working methodologies developed over the past thirty years. Ongoing research leads to new approaches: recycling water and solar or no heat dyeing. Constructed primarily of compacted tussah silk, flax, and bamboo fiber, surfaces range from smooth and translucent to dense, high relief. A penetrating coating adds crispness and strength, yet is eco friendly. Works may be double sided and hang freely, or may be composed of separate layers and elements. Various construction techniques are used, including stand-alone three-dimensional sculpture. Light in weight, easy to ship, mount, maintain, and clean. Framing is optional. Commissions accepted. Visuals/pricing available upon request.
