Artist Statement

My work is an exploration of structure, surface, and the relationship between the two. The constructions are bas-reliefs of stacked steel grids woven with copper wire and juxtaposed with encaustic paintings. I want to maximize the physicality of the materials, seeking an energy field through structure and surface. My exploration, on a perceptual and tactile level, is to create a transcendent reality, not to recall a specific place or object. Archaeology, rituals, repetition, ruins, magic, and the art of indigenous societies all strongly influence my creative process. My work can be seen in public spaces, homes, and museums. The commissions/ installations have involved collaboration with collectors, architects, and designers throughout the world. The materials are durable, low maintenance, and suitable for installation in public areas.
