Artist Statement
I gather colors from all around me: the brilliance
of the zinnias in my garden, the unexpected
splash of orange in the woods, the clear blue of the sky on an autumn day. I carry these images with me as I approach the dye pot. Here, I hand dye new and recycled
fabrics, striving for a feeling of spontaneity.
By working in an improvisational style, I combine many traditional textile techniques in new ways to create a lively and contemporary feel. While some of my pieces are purely explorations of color, others
tell stories and comment on issues of importance. I have worked extensively with individual collectors and enjoy the collaborative
process.
