Artist Statement
Stained glass has captivated me for my entire adult life. My willingness to explore possibilities within the parameters of the stained/leaded glass format has led to conceptual and technical breakthroughs: stainless glass, beveled wire glass, architonomous art glass, and clovis glass. My designs are generally simple and straightforward while revealing subtle complexities. I maintain empathy with the architectural canvas. Color is a feature I frequently realize. It is interesting to take a cliché, design, or color dogma and breach it while still achieving an aesthetic success. My stained/leaded glass installations are easily maintained, durable, and beautiful. The juxtaposition of glasses with different optical qualities makes visually exciting works. Contrasting the trendiness sometimes seen in architecture, I advocate "genuine and permanent beauty in the built environment." What we make today should be as meaningful in one hundred years as it is today.
