Artist Statement
I produce tile paintings that suggest the patina of age. Layering color onto thin, textured stoneware achieves a surface that combines the subtlety of nature with the formality of a grid. These compositions are suitable for either in- or outdoors and take the form of freestanding columns, wall panels, or architectural installations. Attached to .25" luan with silicone, the tiles (often 3.5" square) weigh approximately 1.75 pounds per square foot, are durable, and require minimum maintenance. I enjoy working with the requirements of clients and can produce small- or large-scale work. In 1999 I was presented with the Governor's Award for Visual Art. During the last twenty years, my commissions have included private installations, as well as the following: Dartmouth- Hitchcock Hospital, Lebanon, NH; Conrad Hotel, Hong Kong; Mayo Clinic Chapel, Scottsdale, AZ; and Nobu Restaurant, New York, NY.
