Ceramic relief wall tiles formed by carving a dissolvable mold from silt, casting clay within, and excavating several days later. Glazed and fired with colored terra sigillata. Suitable for either interior or exterior installation. The assemblage is comprised of 13 tiles of varying sizes, the largest tile measures 12in x 12in x 2in. Each tile can be hung on the wall with a simple hook or nail, similar to that used for hanging framed artwork. A full size paper pattern is included for easy installation. You can find the accurate hook placement after taping the pattern on the wall.

In order to encourage this union of substance and shape, Christopher Gryder has developed a new sand- casting technique--"earth forming"--that allows him to shape his material by carving its negative form. Once the cavity is filled with clay, he releases the actual piece by destroying the surrounding silt mold.

The process creates a ceramic illusion, passing off man-made objects as though they were formed in the natural world. A deliberate artifice that replaces the artist's investment of time and labor with the casual motions of Mother Nature.
