A whimsical wheel thrown ceramic mug, decorated with sgraffito using black slip, featuring a giraffe standing among city traffic. Glazed to give a glossy finish. Each piece is unique, and will vary slightly from piece to piece. Dishwasher and microwave safe; holds approximately 16 oz.

Jennifer Falter

"I strive to make pots that others will enjoy using in their daily lives."

Jennifer Falter's craft as a potter allows her to both create and embellish. She enjoys making functional, yet decorative porcelain pots, encased in a tactile, sgraffito or carved surface. Her love of pattern making, line, and mark making appear in both her narrative, light-hearted pieces and in the quiet nature-inspired wares. Her pieces invite the viewer to investigate through touch, sight, and use.

Each piece of Jennifer's work is thrown from porcelain on the potter's wheel. This pure white canvas of the clay provides a striking contrast to the layers of black slip that she brushes on to the surface of the pot. After all layers are applied, Jennifer carves the entire exterior with a small loop tool to expose the clay and bring her imagery to life. Afterward, each piece is bisqued, clear glazed and fired. All of her work is both dishwasher and microwave safe.

Jennifer graduated from Missouri State University in 1996 with a BFA in ceramics. She has worked diligently in clay since graduation and has gone on to share this passion with her community.

Love Jennifer Falter mugs
The workmanship is wonderful. I love the shape, size,texture and whimsical quality of this mug. It is a great conversation piece as well as usefull. I use my Jennifer Falter mugs every day all day long. They give you a smile in your day.

Perfect Fit for me
I bought this mug for myself and I love how it feels in my hands. I also purchased five other mugs from this artist. Four were used as gifts for very special people. They loved them too.

Whimsical Mug of Excellent Quality

I wish I had room for more
I collect giraffes of all kinds and this mug fit right in. I also like large mugs so again this is perfect for me. I also like the whimsical nature of the idea of a giraffe in a city. The "dent" in the mug which prevents your knuckles from rubbing against the hot mug is a great idea.

Absolutely gorgeous!
This is my favorite from the four I got. I love the black at the bottom, funny giraffe and all. I'm very happy with the purchase of 4 mugs and 4 matching bowls.

A Standout!
I collect handmade pottery mugs, so I thought I had seen it all. This mug is great! Not only is it functional (great handle, good size) but is is very well executed in terms of creativity and beauty. It is one of my favorites.

Fun mug
I purchased this as a gift and it was a hit! The mug was large (I don't like mugs that don't hold a lot of liquid) and the craftsmanship was perfect. No rough edges on the lip (or anywhere), easy-to-grip handle, and the design was even more whimsical in person than it appears online.
